The Chicago City Council Committee on Workforce Development approved an ordinance that would implement a two-year freeze of the tipped credit wage on Tuesday.
The city's One Fair Wage Ordinance was supposed to gradually raise pay for tipped workers to minimum wage.
But restaurant owners say it's having a negative impact on them.
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson vetoed a previous wage freeze.
Tuesday's vote moves this new compromise ordinance to the full city council.
