The Illinois Tollway announced that beginning overnight Sunday into Monday, the ramp connecting westbound I-290 to southbound I-294 was scheduled to close.
However, Chopper 7 was over the scene on Monday at about 6 a.m. as traffic began to build on what was supposed to be a blocked ramp.
Illinois State Police confirmed they received a report at 5:54 a.m.
A driver allegedly drove into the barricaded area on I-290 westbound to IL-38, ISP said.
ISP said only one vehicle was involved in the crash.

The crash blocked off the ramp entirely, leaving drivers stuck on what was supposed to be a closed ramp.
The ramp is scheduled to be closed through 2026.
It was unclear how crews were going to clear the traffic backup.
No injuries were reported.
