Armed robbers target people walking to cars in downtown Chicago, police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police issued an alert of armed robberies in Streeterville and the Near North neighborhood.



High-end jewelry, purses and watches are being taken at gunpoint from people walking to their cars.

In one instance, the victim was rear ended and then robbed when they got out of their vehicle to check for damage.

Chicago police said it happened at the following locations and dates:

  • 300-block of East Chicago on Sunday, March 8 at 5:25 a.m.


  • 100-block of West Walton on Sunday, March 15 at 4 a.m.


  • 100-block of East Chestnut on Monday, March 16 at 4:30 p.m.


  • Chicago police said the group involved three to four suspects wearing dark clothing and masks.
