The initial crash happened around 3:39 p.m. in the 3200 block of West Addison Street on the city's Northwest Side, Chicago police said.

The crash involved a Nissan Rogue and an on-duty suburban police officer with the Downers Grove Police Department, Chicago police said. After the crash, the Nissan fled the scene and onto an expressway.

Chopper 7 was overhead as the car led Illinois State Police on a high-speed pursuit on the Dan Ryan Expressway all the way to the South Side.

While fleeing, the Nissan's driver switched vehicles with the driver of a minivan, Chicago police said. The minivan was later stopped by Chicago police in the 7100 block of South Lafayette Avenue.

Two people were taken into custody, CPD officials said.

No further information was immediately available.

The Downers Grove Police Department continue to investigate the initial Northwest Side crash.
