CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police are investigating an explosion outside of a city alderman's home on the Lower West Side.

The incident happened around 12:45 a.m. Saturday near the home of 25th Ward Alderman Byron Sigcho Lopez at West 21st Street and South Damen Avenue, officials said.

The alderman's office issued a statement Saturday evening, saying CPD's Bomb and Arson Unit is investigating the explosion. Chicago police confirmed to ABC7 they are investigating.

"Video surveillance shows two men in an SUV, one of whom stepped out, ignited an explosive device directly in front of the Alderman's home, and immediately got back in the car to drive away as it detonated," the statement from Ald. Sigcho Lopez's office read in part. "The explosion shattered a window and no injuries were reported."

The statement said the explosion happened while Sigcho Lopez's three children were sleeping inside.

The alderman's office shared the surveillance video with ABC7.
