CHICAGO (WLS) -- Nine children were taken to the hospital after ingesting non-toxic materials they found on their way to school, according to a Chicago fire spokesperson.

A Chicago Fire Department spokesperson told ABC7 Chicago said they were at Richard J. Daley Elementary Academy after reports of children ingesting something and becoming sick.

Chopper 7 was over the school at 10 a.m. as first responders and parents waited outside the school.

CFD later said that the students found a package with "non-toxic material" on their way to school on Wednesday.

The students, all under the age of 10, were taken to the hospital out of caution. All kids are expected to be okay.
