Chicago mourns victims of Dallas shooting

Several groups in Chicago are remembering the lives lost in the deadly shooting Dallas in their own ways.
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Several groups in Chicago are remembering the lives lost in the deadly shooting Dallas in their own ways.

At the Chicago Police Department's 19th Precinct at Halsted and Addison, there is a memorial to the victims, with flowers, posters and candles.

At Chicago's Fraternal Order of Police Headquarters, blue ribbons are tied around trees. Chicago police officers are now wearing a black band on their stars and are working in pairs as part of a new directive in the wake of the Dallas attack.

Former Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says that keeps officers safer by having an extra pair of eyes.

On Friday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said the violence must end.

"We cannot be a country where our differences define us," Emanuel said. "We must recommit ourselves to our common values, to confront the corrosive culture of violence."



There were peaceful protests through the streets of Chicago Friday.



St. Sabina's Father Michael Pfleger was joined by actor Nick Cannon, who starred in the film "Chiraq."

The protests are expected to continue through the weekend, including one expected Saturday afternoon at Millennium Park. The police union has called for more protection for officers at the protests.
