Illinois Education Association President Al Llorens dies at 71

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The head of the Illinois Education Association has died, the IEA announced Friday.

Al Llorens took over as president of the state's largest teachers union in 2023.



The 71-year-old Chicago native previously worked for more than 30 years as a high school math teacher and cross country coach at Thornridge High School.

He leaves behind his wife, three children and two stepchildren.



Funeral plans for Llorens are pending.
