It would be the first increase for the agency that provides suburban transportation since 2018.
The proposal cites a 10% increase on fare for 2026.
PACE is struggling after a decline in federal funds and rising operating costs.

There are public hearings on the PACE budget proposals and fare hikes through October.
If approved by the Regional Transportation Authority, the proposed fare for Ventra would be $2.25, comprared to the current $2 fare. The cash fare would be $2.50.

Governor JB Pritzker talked about the challenges facing public transit in Chicago on Tuesday.
"Democrats at least are talking about building world class systems, finding efficiencies, governing better and finding the resources. Guess what? That means you gotta pay for it. Somebody's gotta pay," Pritzker said. "We all have to pay, the riders have to pay. I mean we want something great for this area, for this region."
