Chicago police data shows shootings down in 2025

CHICAGO (WLS) -- New data from Chicago police shows shootings, shooting victims, and murders are continuing their downward trend.

An analysis by the ABC 7 Data team finds that the number of shooting victims, which includes survivors, continues to drop drastically each month.

Over the last 12 months, it's down more than 38 percent compared to the prior three-year average.

If that continues, Chicago is on track to have the first year since 2009 with fewer than 2,000 shooting victims.

Glen Brooks, Director of Community Policing joined ABC7 to talk about the crime stats and a gun turn-in event this weekend.
