Chicago police confirmed a 19-year-old woman was shot after someone opened fire in the heart of downtown Chicago. All of it unfolded after holiday festivities wrapped up near the Mag Mile.
The shooting happened around 8:55 p.m. on a sidewalk in the 0-100 block of West Washington Street, Chicago police said. Police could also be seen investigating at the Macy's store on State Street.
The 19-year-old woman was shot by an unknown male offender while walking with a group of people on the sidewalk, CPD said. She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was initially listed in critical condition, CFD officials said. Chicago police later said she was in fair condition.
Another crime scene could be seen on the site of the shooting on Washington Street nearby. It was not immediately clear why the investigation also included the Macy's store.
The Macy's store is located at State Street and Randolph Street downtown, near ABC7 Chicago's State Street Studios. A heavy police presence could be seen inside and outside of the store.
Another woman who experienced some sort of medical emergency was taken to a hospital in good condition, CFD said.
No arrests have been made and no further information was immediately available. Area Three detectives continue to investigate.
