Man seriously hurt in shootout with CPD officers in South Chicago; COPA investigating

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man was seriously hurt in a shootout involving Chicago police.



The shooting happened Monday around 10:35 p.m. in the 3100-block of East 83rd Street, police said.



According to the CPD, officers stopped a man who allegedly had a gun.



During the stop, shots were fired and the suspect was struck.

He was taken into custody and transported to University of Chicago Hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

A firearm was recovered on the scene, police said.

No officers were struck by gunfire. Both officers were transported to a local hospital for observation.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating.



As a result of the investigation, there was a temporary reroute of #N5 South Shore Night buses near 83rd/Houston. By 4:15 a.m. the CTA said the reroute had ended.
