CHICAGO (WLS) -- A grieving mother is demanding justice and reform after her 31-year-old daughter was shot to death in Chicago's South Loop this week.

Tina McMiller stood Friday morning near Cermak and State, The same spot where Chicago police said 31-year-old Romeca Meeks-Blackmon was shot and killed during a school drop-off on Monday.

She was involved in a physical altercation with a known female suspect outside in the 2200-block of South State Street just after 9:05 a.m., when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot her in the face, police said.

Meeks-Blackmon was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she died, CPD said.

McMiller says her daughter was loving, supportive, and an amazing mother.

Leaders who gathered with the mother on Friday also called for tougher action against violence and enforcement of House Bill 158. It's a state law that declares violence a public health crisis.

The suspect in the shooting was taken into custody, and Area Three detectives are investigating.

No charges have been filed, but Chicago police had called the shooting domestic in nature. It was not immediately clear what led up to the fight between the two.
