CHICAGO (WLS) -- Two people were injured in a shooting on Chicago's Near North Side, police said Friday evening.

According to Chicago police, two males - a teenager and an adult - were in the 0-100 block of East Chicago Avenue near Wabash when someone approached them, pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Witnesses told ABC7 they heard about six gunshots and saw two suspects flee the scene on a bike. The shooting happened in broad daylight, near the CTA Red Line Chicago stop, just as crowds of people were walking around the busy neighborhood.

"I was on State and Pearson about to get a haircut heard about seven, at first I thought fireworks, but no, they were gunshots," said Mitchell Siegel who lives nearby. "Came running over here and that's when all the chaos kind of commenced."

A 16-year-old boy was struck in the arm, and a 23-year-old man was also struck in the arm. They were both taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment and reported to be in good condition.

An investigation is ongoing. A person of interest is being questioned, and police said a firearm was recovered.

Chicago Avenue was closed between State Street and Wabash Avenue for hours during the police investigation.

No charges have yet been filed.
