Chicago White Sox take 2 games over Cubs in Crosstown Classic at Rate Field

Warm weekend across Chicago also includes Soldier Field Bruno Mars concerts, Lincoln Park May Fest

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago White Sox took two games over the Cubs in the Crosstown Classic Series at Rate Field after winning 9-8 on Sunday.

The Southsiders hit a walk-off two-run homer in extra innings.

The series was met with a return of summer-like weather in the Windy City this weekend, with events more events happening around Chicago.



Both Chicago White Sox and Cubs fans piled into Rate Field for all three games of the Crosstown Classic Series, with temperatures into the 80s literally making for a heated rivalry.



Music and warmth coated those who gathered at what's called the premier summer kickoff at May Fest in Lincoln Park on Saturday and Sunday.

"It's one of those things if you walked in having a bad day, you're going to leave having the best day," said Luke Mooney, who moved to Chicago from Ohio. "You walk in - look at these guys playing. They're having such a good time. I've seen the same people sitting on their chairs, waiting for everything to happen. Everybody's smiling."

Warm weekend for White Sox-Cubs Crosstown Classic, Bruno Mars concerts


Bruno Mars took to the big stage at Soldier Field for the first of two nights of his sold out The Romantic Tour Saturday night. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for his second concert Sunday.

"We just had to do the red for the album cover, then I had to find gold jewelry, and I had to ask my parents for their jewelry," Bruno Mars fan Almae Uy said.



Fans bathed in the Chicago Lakefront weather, bringing their own 24-karat magic.

"Wear something for good weather, like, prepare for it," 13-year-old Bruno Mars fan Jayden Dedeaux said. "And, I would say, if you're not coming here, where are you at? What are you doing?"
