For 30 years, he has been at the helm, taking classic plays and giving them a contemporary twist, plus nurturing new and unknown talent at the Goodman. He has won a Tony Award, multiple Jeff Awards and was recently inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame, all while keeping his roots right here in Chicago.

Born in downstate Ashland, Ill., he was raised in Lombard, and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Even though he has been lured to the coasts, he has always kept his roots in Chicago.
