CCPSA searching for next Chicago police superintendent after Snelling retirement announcement

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Community Commission for Public Safety and Accountability is now looking for the next Chicago Police Department superintendent following Larry Snelling's retirement announcement.

Snelling shared the news in a letter posted on social media by CPD Wednesday afternoon.



On Thursday, Mayor Brandon Johnson said the city of Chicago is beyond grateful for his years of dedication and service.

Snelling was raised in Chicago and joined the force more than 30 years ago.



His last day is July 15, with Fred Waller serving as interim CPD superintendent.
