Emergency crews searching Lake Michigan after mayday call near Indiana Dunes

PORTER, Ind. (WLS) -- Emergency crews are currently searching Lake Michigan for a vessel that was heard making a mayday call, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Thursday evening.

The search is focused about 2 miles northwest of Indiana Dunes State Park after the call came in from a marine radio, the IDNR said.



No contact has been made since the original mayday call was broadcast.

Indiana Conservation officers, the United States Coast Guard, Indiana Dunes National Park Rangers, the Porter Fire Department and the Portage Fire Department are searching the water, while others search from the shore.
