Cook County launching relief fund for homeowners who saw high property tax increases

Homeowners who saw a big increase in property tax bills in recent years could get a $1,000 payment

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Some good news for Cook County homeowners.

Cook County is launching a $15 million Cook County Homeowner Relief Fund.

Some homeowners who saw a substantial increase on their property tax bills in the 2021, 2022 or 2023 tax years could get a one-time payment of $1,000.

Eligibility requirements include:
-A property tax bill increase of at least 50% in any year since the 2021 tax year
-An income at or below 100% of the Area Median Income for the applicant's household size. For example, a four-person household making $119,900 or less would be eligible.
-The home must be the primary residence of the applicant.
