Crews battling large fire at vacant Balmoral Race Track in Crete Township

CRETE TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WLS) -- Crews are battling a massive fire at the vacant Balmoral Race Track in south suburban Crete Township on Sunday morning.

The fire broke out along Dixie Highway. Video from the scene shows large plumes of smoke rising from the track.



Officials say the flames have spread through the roof as crews remain in defensive mode.

How the fire started was not immediately clear.
