Japanese American man explores his heritage in documentary film about WWII internment camps

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A local man trying to learn more about his family's heritage has turned the experience into a documentary.

It is called GAMAN, A Japanese American Family's Journey to Reclaim Their Past.



The film explores four generations of Japanese Americans and takes a look at the impact of the internment camps during World War II.

Darren Honda, the man behind GAMAN, joined ABC7 on Tuesday night.



He discussed the impetus behind starting your ancestry journey and what made him decide to turn his ancestry story into a film.

He also talked about the film's key messages.
