Deaths of service member, another person near Naval Station Great Lakes ruled murder-suicide: police

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. (WLS) -- A service member and another person died in a murder-suicide near Naval Station Great Lakes last week, North Chicago police said on Monday.

The bodies of a man and a woman in their 30s were found Friday on a sidewalk near California Avenue and Wisconsin Drive, just a few blocks west of the naval base.



The Navy confirmed that one of the two people who died was a service member.

Naval Station Great Lakes issued a statement Saturday afternoon, saying, "We are aware of an incident that occurred Friday, Oct. 10, in Navy housing, where a service member and another individual were found deceased.

We mourn the loss of our shipmate and extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends and coworkers of the Sailor and the other individual involved. Our thoughts are with all those affected during this difficult time.

Grief counseling and support services are available through the chain of command and the command chaplain.

The North Chicago Police Department is leading the investigation."

How the two people died was not immediately clear.
