DEKALB, Ill. (WLS) -- A man is facing multiple charges related to the murder of his 5-month-old baby, DeKalb police said.

On Monday afternoon, police said Dominic G. Larson took the baby to Northwestern Kishwaukee Community Hospital with severe facial injuries, police said.

DeKalb County Sheriff's Office deputies said that Larson appeared to be intoxicated at the hospital. He was ordered to stay to wait for police, but he tried to leave.

Larson was then restrained and handcuffed by the DeKalb County Sheriff's deputies and taken to the police department for questioning.

The baby was taken by helicopter to the Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood for further treatment.

Police said the baby died on Tuesday afternoon from a fractured skull and hemorrhages to the brain.

That same day the DeKalb County States Attorney's Office approved charging Larson with first-degree murder, aggravated battery, reckless conduct and endangering the life a child.

DeKalb police called the baby's death a "horrific and senseless crime."
