Missing woman found dead in Busse Woods identified, police conducting death investigation

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (WLS) -- A death investigation continued Sunday after a missing woman was found dead in a north suburban wooded area on Saturday morning, police said.

The body has now been identified as 23-year-old Atalia Pucheta Martinez, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said. She had been missing from Mount Prospect.



Elk Grove Village police said Saturday initial information indicated that a motorist noticed a person lying in Busse Woods near Higgins Road about one mile west of Arlington Heights Road around 9:30 a.m.

Mount Prospect police said they responded just before 2 p.m. Saturday to the 1400 block of Brownstone Court for the report of a missing woman matching the description of the woman found dead earlier in the forest preserve near Elk Grove Village. The missing person found dead was Martinez.



The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department and the Cook County Forest Preserve Police are now conducting a death investigation with the police departments of Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect.

Martinez's cause of death has not yet been ruled by the medical examiner.

Police said again Sunday there was no active threat to the community and it was an isolated incident.
