BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- A woman has been cited in connection with a crash that killed a Buffalo Grove High School security guard.

It happened in April as students were leaving school for the day.

Police say the 20-year-old driver from Elmwood Park was exiting the parking lot, when her vehicle hit a light pole.

She's been cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to exercise due care and driving on the sidewalk.

Orlando Rivas moved to shield students from the falling pole.

He died three days later from his injuries.

The driver was due in court Thursday morning in Rolling Meadows.
