Ex-Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputy Sean Grayson appeals conviction for murder of Sonya Massey

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- A former Sangamon County sheriff's deputy is appealing his murder conviction.

A jury found Sean Grayson guilty of second-degree murder in October.

He shot Sonya Massey in her Springfield home last year.

Grayson's attorneys argue he was not able to properly prepare a defense, because he was detained before his trial.

Attorneys are also questioning some of the evidence that was allowed or not allowed to be used during the trial.
