Family wants gang founder freed so he can help curb Chicago violence

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The family of an imprisoned former gang leader is making a plea to President Barack Obama.

Jeff Fort's daughter and religious leaders met to call on the president to commute her father's sentence.

Fort, who now goes by Abdul Malik Kabah, helped found the street gang Black P Stones.

Kabah, who is now is his 60s, is serving time in a Supermax prison in Colorado.

His family wants President Obama to place Kabah on conditional release to help reduce violence in Chicago.
