CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Bronzeville church is stepping up to help people dealing with the rising price of gas.

Citypoint Community Church said they will distribute $25 gas cards to people who attend morning services on Mother's Day.

The goal is to give away $5,000 in free gas on Sunday.

Cards will be distributed during the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services at the church at 43rd and South Prairie.

The church said the initiative kicked off last Sunday, where the church distributed its first $300 in gas cards.

Pastor Demetrius Davis let the initiative after the church recognized how rising gas costs were affecting everyday Chicagoans.
