Before you stash the garden tools, October is prime time to prep your yard for winter.
Chalet Home & Garden horticulturist Jennifer Brennan stopped by ABC7 Eyewitness to share her fall checklist. From fertilizing and reseeding lawns to planting spring bulbs using the "dig, drop and grow" method. She says cooler days and warm soil make this the best time for root growth.
Brennan also recommends holding off on mulch until after the first hard freeze and keeping critters away with natural repellents. And with National Pumpkin Day coming up October 25, she says it's the perfect time to carve, cook or decorate with colorful pumpkins.
Chalet will host a houseplant lecture on October 25 and a holiday preview event November 6-9 with Santa, reindeer and Christmas trees.
