Girl Scouts hold Pinkie Promise Pajama Walk in Mundelein

MUNDELEIN (WLS) -- Mundelein Girl Scout Troop 40701 is raising money for breast cancer awareness this Mother's Day.

"They make all the posters. They make bracelets. They make the flowers. They design the t-shirt. They design the patch," Julia Nachman, troop leader, said.

The scouts will hold a Pinkie Promise Pajama Walk. They've had considerable success in the past.

"It's so amazing to see what our work had done especially for breast cancer, how many people came together in support of it," Emily Nailor, 14, said.

This is the third annual pajama walk.

"With your friends, when you say you promise something, they always make you pinkie promise," Jessica Pataky, 13, said. "And with us doing the Pinkie Promise Pajama Walk, it makes me feel like I have to stay with it."

More than 200 people have registered to walk in their pajamas. The girls expect to raise about $5,000. Proceeds benefit two local charities, including Healing Pajamas, which distributes silky pajamas to breast cancer patients who are in treatment.

"This year we're also buying mammograms for A Silver Lining Foundation for women who can't afford that first step in detection and prevention," Nachman said.

The Pinkie Promise Pajama Walk kicks off Saturday morning at the Fremont Intermediate School in Mundelein.
