CHICAGO (WLS) -- Governor JB Pritzker on Monday responded to President Donald Trump's comments about Chicago, after a violent weekend in the city.

The president, reacting overnight.

The talkback began when Trump posted to Truth Social Sunday, asking why Pritzker isn't calling him for help in dealing with crime in the Windy City.

This weekend where 39 people were shot, six of whom died.

Gov. Pritzker responding while at an event in Gilman, Illinois saying that he's asked for assistance from the FBI, DEA and the ATF, to go after crime and he wishes the president would stop posting online, and instead offer resources.

"I don't think that that we should be listening to this president or the promises that he makes," Pritzker said. "Or that he has any idea on how to protect us in the state of Illinois. I am deeply concerned to make sure that we're keeping the people of Illinois safe."

The saga continued late Monday night, the president posting to Truth Social again, saying in part:

"Governor Pritzker, I, as president, can fix this, fast and permanently. D.C., Memphis, New Orleans, all down to record lows, and quickly! CALL ME!"

So far, Pritzker has not released any new comments. The governor has an unrelated public event in Chicago at 11 a.m.
