Officials ID bicyclist hit, killed by freight train in Grayslake

GRAYSLAKE, Ill. (WLS) -- Officials identified the bicyclist who was hit and killed by a freight train on Tuesday evening.

The Lake County Coroner's Office said 60-year-old Virginia Girmscheid, of Grayslake, died at the scene near Lake Street and Hillside Avenue.



The Grayslake Police Department, the Grayslake Fire Department, and the Metra Police Department responded to the crash, which involved a CN freight train, just before 8:15 p.m.

Preliminary autopsy results indicate that Girmscheid died from blunt-force injuries.



Metra police are investigating the crash.
