A ground stop due to staffing issues was in effect from 11:24 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. with a medium (30-60%) probability of extension.
A departure delay, also due to staffing issues, was impacting flights as well. The FAA website said delays were averaging 15 minutes and increasing Saturday afternoon.
Both alerts have since been removed from the FAA website.
This comes as federal employees have been working without pay, with some taking side jobs to pay the bills amid the government shutdown.
Meanwhile, more than 900 flights have been canceled nationwide on Saturday as the FAA continues limiting flight capacity at 40 major U.S. airports.
As of 10 p.m. Saturday, there were 100 total flight cancellations at O'Hare, and there were 18 total cancellations at Midway Airport.
