2 found shot to death, 1 dog dead in Harvey home, officials say

HARVEY, Ill. (WLS) -- A man and woman were found shot to death Thursday morning in south suburban Harvey, police and a city spokesperson said.

Police responded about 7:20 a.m. to a home near the intersection of Vine Avenue and 150th Street for a reported possible medical issue.

When police arrived, they found two people with gunshot wounds.



They were pronounced dead on the scene.

The Cook County Medical Examiner identified one of the victims as 50-year-old Aaron Jones.

The woman has not been identified.

Two dogs were also shot during the incident, a Harvey spokesperson said. One dog died from its injuries, while the other remains in critical condition.



Police are investigating the incident as a double homicide.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, police said.

There was a large police presence at the home all day.

Harvey and Illinois State Police are investigating.

Harvey police and Mayor Shirley Drewenski spoke briefly Thursday but did not share any additional information on the shooting.



Drewenski called the incident a "senseless crime."

Loved ones have been arriving at the home distraught and emotional, as they wait for answers.
