DEERFIELD, Ill. (WLS) -- A group of suburban police departments have use of a new tool to prevent pets or children from overheating inside hot cars.
Ryobi, the power tool manufacturer, and Home Depot donated special infrared thermometers that quickly gauge the temperature inside a locked vehicle.
The tool alerts officers to conditions requiring immediate entry to get a pet or child out of the car.
The company held a demonstration at the Deerfield Home Depot on Monday.
