Driver killed in Bishop Ford Freeway crash on South Side: Illinois State Police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- All southbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway were temporarily closed after a deadly crash on Chicago's South Side early Friday morning, Illinois State Police said.

The crash happened at about 5:50 a.m. on Interstate 94 at 115th Street.



A White GMC SUV struck the median barrier, ejecting the driver, ISP said. The driver, whose age and gender were not immediately known, died.

A dog was inside the SUV at the time of the crash. Police initially said the dog had died, but later clarified that the pet was not injured. No one else was in the SUV.



Chopper 7 was over the scene, where police were seen investigating.

All southbound I-94 lanes were closed between 115th and 130th streets. All lanes reopened at about 9:19 a.m.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
