It's hard not to have a smile on your face when you're sitting on one of the covered tables out in front of Jack Frost. Looking like a tiny alpine ski hut, the Oak Forest legend has remained popular, thanks to its remarkable soft serve, and an emphasis on using good vanilla and chocolate.

"The chocolate, that is more of a milk chocolate instead of a dark chocolate, and when you bring it together in a twist it's probably one of our biggest sellers," said co-owner Peggy Wright.

"Comes in four sizes, and it's our soft serve blended with a stir-in. We have over 20 different stir-ins to choose from," she said.
The peanut butter cup is a personal favorite, by the way. If you're more of a sundae person, the options are pretty extensive. Most begin with a little chocolate syrup or caramel in the bottom of the cup.
"The Dirty Bear is a vanilla soft serve with chocolate syrup, Oreos and gummi bears; it's our version of a dirt worm sundae," said Wright. "The s'more has vanilla with a liquid marshmallow and chocolate syrup topping and graham crackers. And it's topped off with more mini marshmallows."

"It's a very happy environment and the kids like it and it's very nice," she said.
Jack Frost is not open year round, they close on Labor Day, which means just a couple of weeks left to enjoy a taste of nostalgia.
