Police believe two Joliet men who know each other, 60-year-old Lyndon B. Hunt and 58-year-old Willis Ellis began arguing on the home's front porch in the 200-block of Nicholson Street.
During the argument, police believe Hunt stepped from the porch into the front yard, where Ellis allegedly shot him. Police said Ellis then called 911 to report that he had shot someone.
Officers responded to the scene just after 4:30 p.m. Friday. Hunt, shot in the stomach, was transported in critical condition to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead later Friday evening, police said.
Investigators recovered a handgun from the scene and took Ellis to the Joliet Police Department for questioning. He is now charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
Police said Ellis was also transported to Silver Cross Hospital for treatment for a preexisting medical condition. He remains hospitalized under police guard.
The Will County State's Attorney's Office continues to review the case, police said.
