Visitation held for 10-year-old Kate Schmidt killed in Geneva Lake boat capsizing

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Family and friends will gather in Batavia Monday to remember 10-year-old Kathryn Schmidt.



She was one of three children killed when a boat capsized during storms last weekend on Geneva Lake.

Kate is remembered as a talented singer, artist and standout tennis player.

The National Weather Service confirmed that winds reached up to 100 mph during the storm.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Moss Family Funeral Home at 209 S Batavia Avenue, according to the funeral home's website.

Visitation for her cousins, 7-year-old Abigail Oswald and 6-year-old Caleb Oswald, is scheduled for Wednesday in Wheaton.

The visitation will be at the Danada House at 3S501 Naperville Road in Wheaton from 3 to 7 p.m.

A GoFundMe page has raised more than $139,000 in honor of Kate.

A fundraiser for Abigail and Caleb Oswald has raised more than $297,000.
