The McHenry County Sheriff said authorities responded to a house fire near Birch Drive and Wonder Lake Drive in Wonder Lake.
One house appeared to be destroyed and at least one other was damaged.
At least one person was airlifted from the scene in a medical helicopter. Their condition was unknown and it was unclear if anyone else was hurt.
The cause of the apparent explosion and fire are under investigation.
