WLSCHICAGO (WLS) -- The legendary blues club Checkerboard Lounge has closed in Chicago.[Ads /]The lounge closed after the death of its owner, L.C. Thurman.He first opened the club on 43rd Street back in 1972. It moved to Hyde Park in 2005.
