Suspect dead after firefighters report shots fired at Lombard home: police

LOMBARD, Ill. (WLS) -- A suspect is dead after firefighters reported shots fired at a west suburban home on Friday morning, police said.

The Lombard Fire Department initially responded to a home in the 400-block of Arboretum Drive after a fire alarm went off, police said.



Firefighters on the scene reported hearing shots fired, and police responded. Chopper 7 was over the heavy police response around 8:20 a.m.

Police later confirmed in a statement issued just after 10:15 a.m. that the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.



No other injuries were reported.

Police said there is no threat to the public, and residents in the area can safely leave their homes.

Police previously asked residents in the area to stay indoors and avoid the immediate area.

Officers were still on the scene to investigate at 10:20 a.m.
