Lost-and-found rescue dog finds forever home

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A rescue dog that was lost after being transported to Chicago and found five days later in sub-zero temperatures has found her forever home.

Madison, a Doberman mix, was rescued off the streets in Texas but slipped her harness near Midway Airport in early January while being transported to a Wisconsin rescue organization.

Five days later, a woman coaxed Madison out from under a car in a grocery store parking lot. After recognizing Madison from a lost dog poster, she contacted the Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus organization.

Though Madison had to undergo heartworm treatment and back surgery for a fractured vertebra, veterinarians said her recovery has been "remarkable."

The rescue organization says Madison is now well enough to be adopted and her new owner will pick her up next week.
