Metra releases video of South Shore crash

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Video released by Metra appears to contradict a driver's account of what led to a crash in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood.

Relatives provided this photo of Richanna Shelton (center) and London Mayo, her 1-year-old granddaughter (right).

Richanna Shelton was driving with her 15-month-old granddaughter near East 72nd Street and South Exchange Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on June 12. The baby was sitting in a car seat in the back passenger side.

She told ABC7 Eyewitness News that the crossing arms came down as she was turning left. The video seems to indicate she turned into the path of the inbound Metra Electric train.

The car was mangled on the driver's side. Shelton was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The child escaped the crash unharmed.
