Union Pacific investigating freight train cargo theft on West Side, authorities say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Authorities are investigating a train cargo theft involving a Union Pacific freight train Thursday afternoon on the West Side of Chicago.



Union Pacific issued a statement to ABC7, saying it is investigating a cargo theft near Lawler and Kinzie streets in Chicago and cleaning up the site.

Chicago police were monitoring the scene as Union Pacific investigated.

Chopper 7 was over the scene during the investigation.

Dozens of boxes of what appeared to include Insignia Fire TVs could be seen scattered on the side of the train tracks.

Metra UP-W trains were delayed near Oak Park due to the police activity.
