Wednesday, September 17, 2025
CHICAGO (WLS) -- This past weekend was unusually quiet leading into Mexican Independence Day, but it appears the revelers were just waiting for the official holiday to celebrate.

Crowds took over the Loop downtown overnight areas at Wacker and Michigan were blocked off, and State Street was blocked North of Randolph.

There was a large police presence with officers on foot and on bike, but the downtown celebrations appeared peaceful.

And on the South Side, it was a street takeover at 26th and Western where a large crowd gathered, waving large Mexican flags.
