CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicagoans appear to take the phrase "man's best friend" to heart when it comes to naming their dogs.
Based on a list compiled by Nextdoor.com in honor of National Dog Day, many dog owners in Chicago give their pets names that would also work for people, like Lucy, Charlie, Maggie and Max.

The free and private social networking site also made a list of the most popular dog names according to breed. Diesel is the top name for Boxers and Candy is the top name for Shih Tzus.
