CHICAGO (WLS) -- If you're looking to explore Illinois a little more, this might be it.

The state is gearing up for America's 250th birthday with a passport that takes you to historic, cultural and community spots all across Illinois.

Gabrielle Lyon, with the Illinois 250 Commission, joined ABC7 Chicago Thursday to talk more about it.

Communities and cultural organizations across Illinois have kick-started programming, including the Ken Burns exhibit at the Peoria Riverfront Museum.

The Illinois 250 effort is designed to be inclusive and accessible, inviting all Illinoisans across the state to engage with the programs that speak most to them, whether through travel, the arts, history or service, Lyon said.
