New push for Chicago teens ahead of National Voter Registration Day

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Wednesday marks National Teen Voter Registration Day.



The "Reverend Jesse Jackson, Sr. Young Voter Empowerment Law," in Illinois works to make sure every graduating high school senior leaves with not just a diploma, but also the chance to register to vote.

Dr. Jo Ann Roberts, the chair of the coalition behind the law and Cook County Commissioner Tara Stamps joined ABC7 to discuss the ongoing efforts.

Tina Brady Pettis, the founder of Get Out the Vote and Sheila Sterling, the dean of Students at Corliss High School joined ABC7 to talk about an upcoming event at the Chicago high school.

On Wednesday, a voter registration drive will be held at Corliss High School at 821 E 103rd Street.
