When their names were announced Chicago Police Board President Lori Lightfoot called it a "historic moment" and spoke of the need for change.

The finalists include Anne Kirkpatrick, a retired Washington state police chief. She would be the first woman to head the department.
Cedric Alexander is the public safety director in DeKalb County, Georgia, and Eugene Williams is a deputy chief with the Chicago Police Department.
Now it's up to Mayor Rahm Emanuel to make a final decision.
